“I started my own studio in 2009 after being a founding partner in a group practice very interested in international movements. However, we had only very local clients who were almost always asking for ‘fake-vernacular buildings.’ They were actually uninterested in traditional architecture meaning. It was a very challenging context. Still, in this situation, I understood the unexpressed potential of how local cultures create their own solutions without architects, and the unexpressed opportunities for contemporary architecture. I don’t want ego to drive architecture, neither mine nor the people’s. So, I created a process that keeps numbers locked while exploring the unknown.”
