DESCRIPTION

This is a private villa, built in one of the many areas that characterize the landscape of the Italian suburbs. In these places, through an imaginary developed over the years, anyone can buy a piece of freedom: an isolated house, where to build a Villa, completely free from annoying neighbors. Actually, everything is translated into maximize profits, houses are “piled up” turning what should be a space in which feeling free, in a enclosure where being blocked. We have decided to underline this fact, making a figurative tape that moves inside these invisible limits, revealing them.
Local ancient buildings are characterized by the strong presence of bricks, often also used with different degrees of permeability, obtained by different methods of installation which looks like decoration, but that allowed aeration for drying hay. So, as sunscreen, we have made a permeable brick wall, shaped by the sun, that filters the light into a logic of building energy efficiency. The surrounding area, called Oltrepò Pavese, famous as one of the best wine producing areas around the world, is full of vineyards. Here, a land could be built or used as vineyard, stop. Also this land was a vineyard, and the contractor who has transformed and urbanized the area, have maintained a small one opposite to the villa. You can’t ignore such a reference, and neither can we, so we design the internal staircase like a vineyard where you have to pass.
In 2021, the building was renewed becoming and example of the application of our “UnLike” concept designed to improve the energy efficiency while exploring the psyche of the client (in this case ourselves) The result was surprising to us, because we built the rational one, although we think at ourselves as artists.
