All around this Villa, you’ll find countless others, all with pitched roofs covering often intricate volumes, and hardly ever simple. This way of building, besides being a common practice, is also a rule imposed by the local plan that mandates the gabled roof. The client is a businessman, a real estate developer, and much more. Being unstoppable, we knew he would request all sorts of modifications over time. Therefore, we used the rules to allow the client to unleash his creativity freely. A detached gabled roof, detached from what happens beneath it, where volumes can move freely and embellishments are acceptable (promptly occurred).

Despite this alignment with the client’s character, his approval and enthusiasm for the project, during the construction which lasted 19 years (not our fault, I swear), there were many purely aesthetic additions he maded without notifying us. In a building with a very modern character, featuring clean lines and glass everywhere, he inserted decorations and elements that were not part of the original plan, such as columns with capitals and a sun motif inlaid in the facade’s marble cladding. I repeat: all that done in secret.

He had already built contemporary architectures, and had come back to create more, so the issue wasn’t whether he liked them or not. The point was that he wanted to add something of his own. Every time I see that sun inlaid on the facade of this villa, I see the materialization of people’s desire to express themselves.
